The UPK Teacher's Aide supports the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children. The Teacher's Aide assists with daily classroom activities, routines, supervision, and individualized support while helping promote the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assist the lead teacher with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate classroom activities. Provide support and encouragement to children during learning activities, centers, group time, and play. Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times. Help establish and maintain a positive, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment. Assist children with daily routines, including arrival, dismissal, meals/snacks, toileting, handwashing, and transitions. Support children in developing social-emotional skills, independence, communication, and positive behaviors. Work with individual children or small groups who may need additional guidance or support. Help prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, learning centers, and supplies. Assist with classroom cleaning and maintaining a safe, organized learning environment. Communicate professionally and respectfully with the lead teacher, families, staff, and school administration. Follow all school policies, UPK requirements, health and safety procedures, and confidentiality guidelines. Observe children and communicate relevant observations or concerns to the lead teacher. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and other school-related activities as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the lead teacher or school administration.
Qualifications:
Experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, or educational setting preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team. Patience, dependability, flexibility, and a genuine interest in working with young children. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. Must meet all applicable school, district, and UPK background-check and employment requirements.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to actively supervise young children, including sitting on the floor, bending, kneeling, walking, and assisting children as needed throughout the school day.
