Duties:

Provide 1:1 support to a wheel chair bound student Work closely with classroom teachers, students and administrator Supervise and assist students/staff Work with small groups of students Adhere to the district Code of Conduct, school policies and procedures Reinforce behavioral expectations of the school Interact positively with parents Toileting and other specific duties related to a wheelchair bound student

Requirements:

Ability to take direction from classroom teacher and/or related service providers. Class:

The work involves relieving school teachers in a large suburban school district of that part of their duties which, while related to the teaching process, can be performed by noncertified personnel. The work requires the incumbent to have some knowledge of the specific area of instruction performed by the teacher, to which the teacher aide is assigned. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment and to have considerable ability in getting along with children. Does related work as required.

Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR Four (4) years of experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

NOTE:

This position is not designed to replace clerical positions such as Typist, Stenographer or Clerk. Also, it is not designed to assist a Teacher in the teaching process; this is reserved for Teaching Assistants. See Section 80.33 Rules of the Board of Regents and Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.

Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
