Use communication skills such as American Sign Language and other augmentative methods to facilitate effective interaction with students on the autism spectrum or with communication challenges. Assist in classroom management by maintaining a structured environment that promotes positive behavior and supports students. Collaborate closely with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement tailored support plans for students. Handle confidential information responsibly while supporting inclusive education practices aligned with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Experience Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings. Demonstrated knowledge of childhood development principles, special education strategies, and behavior management techniques. Experience supporting students with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders through classroom assistance or behavioral support. Familiarity with curriculum planning, lesson support, and literacy or math instruction at early childhood levels. Ability to work effectively in collaborative team environments while supporting individualized student goals through IEPs. Strong communication and writing skills to document student progress and coordinate with educators and families. Experience handling physical assistance needs for students with disabilities in a safe and respectful manner.
