Job Description

THE EXPLORATION CENTER LLC JOB DESCRIPTION TEACHER AID PURPOSE
To improve students' academic and social-emotional achievements by assisting supplemental learning center staff with the care of a designated group of children.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Directors, and technical and functional supervision from other on-site staff in higher classifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- May include, but are not limited to, the following: Providing child care assistance to a small group of children. Assisting with the care, safety, and well-being of all children in the group. Assisting with the physical care of children. Assisting in carrying out planned activities for a group of children. Maintaining a safe, clean, and pleasant environment for assigned children. Demonstrating an increased understanding of child growth and development in working with children and in recording activities. Participating in staff meeting discussions regarding the program and activities. Supervising children on the playground. Maintaining regular and consistent attendance and punctuality. Performing related duties consistent with job description and assignment. Following all health and

related protocols as designated by the state of Oregon.
Knowledge of:
Age appropriate child care techniques Techniques and methods of child supervision and classroom management General nutrition, general health, and first aid Ability to: Apply an understanding of developmental levels to activities Meet the social-emotional, physical and cognitive developmental needs of children in care Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, appropriate environment for children Accept supervision and work effectively in a team situation Maintain highest level of confidentiality in all matters relating to children at the center Maintain positive relationships with children, co-workers, and parents Seek ways to increase understanding of child development through Professional Development and trainings Complete data tracking on a daily basis for students as needed Willing to be flexible with future changes of facility and children's needs
Experience:
One year of experience in a certified day care center or comparable group child care program which provided care for infants/toddlers, pre-school and school age children.
Training:
High School Diploma or GED. Coursework in child development or early childhood education desirable.
Special Requirements:
Be at least 18 years of age. Complete series of online state required courses. Must complete background check with fingerprinting as required by the state of Oregon. First Aid card and CPR certification within 90 days of being hired.
Work Environment:
Climate controlled classroom settings and outside environment subject to exposure to the weather including seasonal heat and cold. Exposure to moderate to high noise intensity levels. Moderate level of contact with center personnel and community.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent reaching, handling, talking and hearing. Mobility to work in a typical classroom and playground setting. Stamina to frequently move from sitting position to standing, walking, bending, stooping and kneeling. Vision to read printed materials and computer screen or other monitoring devices. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and on the telephone.
Strength:
Light/Medium - Exert force to 35 pounds occasionally, and or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. The Exploration Center LLC is an equal opportunity employer.
