Job Description
Open until filled. This is a Regular position, scheduled to work 6.75 hours/day, and will begin as soon as possible.

Position Overview:
The May Street Elementary Student Support and PBIS Instructional Assistant will provide support to students, families and building staff to ensure student success and safety, to assist in meeting the District's long range vision for student success, with a focus on serving our under-served student populations. The PBIS duties will include assisting in the instruction and supervision of students. Applicants should demonstrate flexibility, patience, and a belief that every student can grow and learn.
Employees in this classification do not supervise others.
Essential Job Functions:
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and provide feedback to student, parents, staff and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, concerns, etc.
Monitors student activities (i.e., classroom, lunch, school grounds, events, etc.)
Reinforce and re-teach Student Code-of-Conduct and Attendance, Academic and Discipline Procedures, as needed
Attends PBIS meetings and provide materials to staff
May assist teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
Facilitate Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and developing solutions.
Works to support an increase in the on-track-to-graduate rate of students. Maintains regular and predictable attendance to meet the needs of the students and the expectations of the District.
Cultivates and models a respectful working and learning environment.
Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies. Input, maintain and analyze Check-in/Check-out data in our student management system (currently Synergy).
Other Job Functions:
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Participates in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, community meetings, etc.)
Serves as a home/school liaison with parents/guardians/families.
May tutor and support students with their classes and small groups as needed Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possess a minimum of an Associate's Degree/two years of college coursework (72 college credits) or have a passing score on the CBEST or a rigorous Paraprofessional Assessment test.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong public relations skills.
Computer skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with district staff, students and parents.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.

Abilities Required:
Skills to perform instructional activities, communicate with parents, students, staff and community, basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and perform basic clerical functions. Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes; PBIS systems and management; organization of team meetings.
Abilities to work as part of an instructional team and be willing to be flexible in working with a wide variety of students and tasks; sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity. English/Spanish Bilingual skills helpful.

Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of:

The hourly pay range listed below is for the 2026/27 school year. Employees who pass the district's English/Spanish bilingual test will earn an additional 5% per hour.
