As a faculty member of The International School you are expected to read, promote, support and act in accordance with these elements. It is also expected that faculty members actively integrate the IB Learner Profile into all aspects of their workday and model the profile through their own behavior. The values, philosophies and expectations of The International School's mission, vision and PYP standing are integrated into the specific job responsibilities for this position. Below are the job responsibility areas which the teacher assistant is expected to fulfill. Teacher Aide Job Description Essential Functions A Teacher Aide ("Aide") shall have the duty and responsibility to meet the following standards and requirements: Demonstrates understanding of the mission, philosophy, values, and teaching principles of ISP Demonstrates understanding of the PYP framework for teaching and learning in the Early Years Works to create strong relationships with the students based on trust, Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental stages and needs of young children. Supports the children to access the curriculum through inquiry-rich experiences Assists the Teacher and supports students to access the curriculum through inquiry-rich learning engagements Assists children individually and in small groups under the teacher's guidance to support their learning. Assists the teacher by observing and recording student performance as requested to assess progress. Becomes familiar with the rules and regulations of the Oregon Child Care Division Ensures necessary professional development is taken to maintain EC license Conducts themselves appropriately and professionally at all times Is present on campus during the times identified as ISP work hours Attends IS Meetings and events when requested by the Head of School Reports to the Teacher and carries out such additional duties as are assigned and consistent with the role of a Teacher's Aide Collaborative team player who can work together with students, faculty colleagues, the administrative team, parents/community, and work independently Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Google docs, Google Calendar) is preferred Additional duties may be assigned by the Head of EC and or Head of School. Participation in staff collaboration events and training opportunities Required Qualifications At least 6 months experience working with Early Childhood or Elementary age children Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English Native level fluency in the target language along with demonstrated ability to support teaching the target language Candidates must obtain Central Background Registry (CBR) clearance, CPR training and a valid Food Handler's card, along with completing all other necessary onboarding documentation, prior to their first day of work Working Conditions/Physical Requirements During peak activity periods, this position may require working in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week. Capable of quickly traveling to multiple locations on school campus including up and down hills, lifting or otherwise carrying 40 pounds, traveling up/down flights of stairs, standing and sitting for long durations, Ability to handle the physical demands of working with young children Ability to travel occasionally to attend off-site events Preferred Qualifications 1-2 years of professional teaching experience in a language immersion classroom Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Teaching/Education or equivalent experience Certification for teaching target language Previous PYP experience or training
