Job Description
Are you passionate about building community and promoting social competence? Do you have experience working with kindergarten through 8th grade school students? Peaceful Schools is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Enrichment Support Instructor to provide support to the Peaceful People Enrichment Program during school hours. This is a 12-month - 40-hour per week position. Position is based at HW Smith in Syracuse, NY. Peaceful Schools Enrichment Support Instructors apply their experience and expertise in specific academic, cultural, and social justice content to support the positive youth development of K-8 students who participate in enrichment courses and After-School Program. Enrichment Support Instructors build community and promote social competence by integrating and promoting the Peaceful People Social Skills Curriculum as needed, and through the application of restorative practices.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with Peaceful Schools enrichment team. Support the creation and management of the peaceful classroom climate and a safe learning environment. Substitute for absent Instructors as needed. Lead instruction in After School classrooms as needed, including implementing building-wide learning initiatives. Preplan for needed supplies and follow company policies to request and receive them. Maintain accurate student attendance/discipline records. Provide building level support as assigned including but not limited to behavioral and academic support as needed. Assist in facilitating mediations as needed. Assist in organization and maintenance of program inventory. Actively participate in Peaceful Schools staff trainings and meetings, as well as in select school-based trainings and meetings. Reflect the mission and vision of Peaceful Schools. Display strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude, and problem-solving skills in line with the Peaceful Schools Core Values. Ability to work independently and identify and solve problems. Follow all company and SCSD building policies, procedures, and protocols. Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Experience working in a K-12 setting preferred. Knowledge and experience planning and leading educational lessons/activities for youth. Fingerprint and background clearance as required under Laws of New York 2001, Chapter 180, and its subsequent amendments. Computer and social media literate include basics in Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Full-time, salaried non-exempt position. Participation in Open House and Curriculum night events, other essential school functions, and report to assigned location as determined by Project Director. Some telecommuting/remote work with supervisor approval. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday as per assigned school building with the ability to report to company headquarters and other locations as assigned when school is not in session. Summer schedules and assigned location may vary as determined by project needs. Some telecommuting/remote work with supervisor approval. Must be able to lift, carry, or cart up to 25 pounds, and transfer room to room as needed throughout the day. Position is 12 months, full-time, working Monday-Friday during the school day, 40 hours per week.
