April 2026 Job Summary The Band Program Educational Assistant - Percussion supports the instructional and performance goals of the school band program by assisting the band director(s) and providing targeted percussion instruction to students in grades 6-12. This position plays a vital role in developing student musicianship through small group instruction, sectional rehearsals, and performance preparation, while also supporting daily classroom operations, equipment management, and program logistics. The assistant contributes to a cohesive, vertically aligned percussion program and participates in rehearsals, performances, and competitions as part of the overall band staff Essential Duties and Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Assist the band director in delivering instructional support to students in classroom and rehearsal settings Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce musical skills and concepts Support classroom management and student supervision during rehearsals, performances, and school activities Assist with the preparation and organization of instructional materials and equipment Operate, maintain, and organize classroom and percussion equipment Supervise students during transitions, events, and designated school activities Follow all district safety procedures and protocols Provide percussion instruction for students in grades 6-12, including dedicated middle school support Teach or assist with a scheduled percussion class during the school day Lead sectional rehearsals and provide individualized instruction to percussion students Collaborate with band directors to support rehearsal planning, instruction, and performance preparation Assist in developing and maintaining a vertically aligned percussion program across grade levels Serve as percussion staff for the marching band program, including rehearsals, performances, and competitions Support musical and visual development of the percussion section Assist with after-school rehearsals and extended-day performances as needed Manage and operate electronic percussion and sound equipment during rehearsals and performances Reinforce structured rehearsal techniques to improve timing, consistency, and ensemble performance Assist with inventory, maintenance, and organization of percussion instruments and equipment Support, logistics for concerts, competitions, and band-relted events Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator Physical Demands and Working Conditions The physical demands and working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: Pushing and/or pulling Climbing Stooping and/or kneeling Reaching Talking Hearing Seeing Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure; accepting responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of an activity; dealing with students; generalizing, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Low to medium degree of discomfort due to exposure to temperature, fumes, dirt, dust, noise, and cleaning chemicals. The position also requires effective communication with parents and colleagues to support the holistic development of students and ensure alignment with school goals. Collaboration with other staff members will be essential to ensure a cohesive experience for all students.
