A Teacher Assistant assists classroom teachers by providing extra individual attention and instruction to students. Helps teachers with recordkeeping, preparation for lessons and activities and supervising students. May work with special education students, or work in a school library or computer lab; may be called teacher aide or paraprofessional.
Anothen Preschool Academy is located on a 22 acre woodland campus in Mansfield, Texas. Our nature-based preschool provides a unique learning experience where children are encouraged to discover and grow in the outdoors. We are hiring a Floating Assistant who will participate in and support the Lead Teacher in everyday tasks. We are seeking an energetic person who can partner with our teachers in a nature-based preschool educational program.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate has a love and knowledge of nature and the outdoors and enjoys educating children ages 2 to 5. Additionally, the candidate will: embrace the mission of the school; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; function effectively as a member of a collaborative teaching team; engage enthusiastically with families and other members of the school community; and embrace the opportunities and challenges of working in an innovative, nature-based preschool. Organization, reliability, flexibility, and a love of being in nature are key to the role.
Education/Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent Associate's Degree preferred but not required 2+ years of experience working with children Pass a background check Remain current on all First Aid/CPR certifications Complete a Tuberculosis test, physical and provide a physician's documentation Comfortable spending 3 or more hours outdoors every day with students during all seasons, except in extreme/dangerous weather- such as high winds, extreme cold, etc. Ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs Obtain dependable transportation
Key Responsibilities:
Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development Assist children with daily activities such as diapering, restroom use, feeding and dressing Work under the supervision of the lead teacher to fulfill the educational goals for the day Care for the children in the absence of the lead teacher Demonstrate strong planning, organizing, and management skills Perform tasks to keep the room safe and attractive, including cleaning tasks Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for preschoolers in both indoor and outdoor settings Ability to learn and identify local natural hazards such as poison ivy, wasps, fire ants, dangerous snakes, etc. Exercise positive and proactive communication and interpersonal skills Communicate clearly with parents about their children's experiences for the day Flexibility to complete other assigned responsibilities
