Job Description

The Special Education Paraeducator will assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support in collaborative classrooms with students who have special needs (Learning Disabilities, Speech, Vision, Hearing and other Health Impairments) to further enhance the efficiency and productivity of educational environments.

Essential Job Functions:

Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments

Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development, personal hygiene, toiletry needs/toilet training

Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups

Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files

Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary

Uses special skills (i.e. sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary

Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty

Education and Experience:

Required

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred

Associates Degree from an accredited college or university

A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting

Special Requirements:

Special education staff assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.

Employment Terms:

Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (200 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.
