Aug 31, 2026 Job Description Burlington Forest Preschool is a licensed 5 STAR program located at Ethan Allen Homestead with two classes for children ages 3
  • 5.
While we have indoor classrooms, we spend as much time as we can outside throughout the year. Our curriculum emphasizes a place-based, inquiry-based, emergent approach, with a focus on the natural world and natural materials. This assistant position works with both classrooms throughout the week. We do not require assistant teachers to hold an educator's license or a degree in education, but mandatory professional development will be required upon starting. The part time position is 20 regular hours per week: from 12:00
  • 4:00, Monday through Friday, with additional required hours for staff meetings and school events. Teachers have 7 weeks of paid breaks during closures throughout the year. Candidates must possess the following skills and qualities:
  • Ability to develop rapport and meaningful reciprocal relationships with children, colleagues, and parents
  • Commitment to individual, communal, and global well-being, and the willingness to engage in professional and personal reflection practices to support this.
  • Commitment to incorporating our values of social justice, anti-racism, anti-bias, sustainability, land stewardship, and partnership with colleagues and community members to further these goals
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, how to implement a meaningful, constructivist, emergent curriculum using the cycle of inquiry
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to learn about the natural world, spend time outside in all weather, and seek ways to utilize natural materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with lead teachers
