REPORTING
This position is supervised and evaluated by the director. The person hired for this position will take direction from classroom teachers.GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Employees in this role must be able to foster learning through language and play, must be able to move quickly to promote safety as well as have mobility that allows floor activities and gross motor activities/movement.RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide secondary instructional support in the classroom under the supervision of the teacher. Support implementation of teacher designed instructional activities and classroom routines. Conduct teacher/therapist-designed instructional experiences. Work with all students, individually or in small/large groups, to reinforce learning of material or skill initially introduced by the teacher. Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Supervise, model, and teach expected behaviors across educational settings, including classrooms, playground, hallways, etc. Implement individual and school wide behavior support plans and positive interventions. Foster social and language development through various activities and active engagement with children. Administer assessment materials as trained or delegated. Assist in preparation of instructional materials and perform clerical duties associated with instructional program. Consistently and respectfully respond to student needs while maintaining confidentiality. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher. Alert the regular teacher to any problem concerning an individual student. Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned. Collaborate with departments to establish formative assessments linked to learning standards. Assist students with health-related needs. May lead or support age/developmentally appropriate de-escalation procedures. Perform first aid. Perform other duties as assigned.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience working with significantly delayed and/or behavior-involved students preferred.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum age 18. Must be able to work in a team setting and take direction. Ability to remain calm in times of high stress. Ability to move quickly to meet student needs, maintain safety and respond to crisis. Possess high moral and ethical standards. Possess good communication skills. Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgement in working with parents, students, staff, and community. Display dependability and punctuality. Must possess organizational skills and the ability to work independently. Experience working with special needs populations desired. Possess adequate health and physical strength necessary in assisting student mobility and relocation. Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with students. Ability to interact with and instruct students on using school technology.MENTAL DEMANDS
Required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and needs in a positive and service-oriented manner. May experience minor changes in work schedule, within the day shift, according to the needs of students. May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Amount of sitting, standing and walking may vary depending on the age of students and classroom assignments. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: the employee frequently will stand and walk and use hands for repetitive grasping and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee is frequently required to sit, bend at neck and back, use hands to lift/carry; squat, kneel, climb stairs, reach overhead, lift overhead, and knee stand.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent (documentation required prior to beginning employment). HOURS Monday-Thursday from 8:15pm-3:15pm (hours are subject to change, depending on needs of students and teachers). Must have or be willing to immediately obtain upon hire the following:- Cleared Portable Background Check from the Department of Children Youth & Families
- MERIT Registration
- Current TB test
- Current First Aid/CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens
Food Handlers Permit Pay:
$16.66 - $18.00 per hourExperience:
