The para educator, under the supervision of the building principal and/or designee, will assist in the instructional portion of the school day. The para educator may work with students in small groups or on a one-to-one basis and be guided by a classroom teacher. This is an on-call position.SALARY RANGE
$19.79 to $20.58 per hourBENEFITS

Student Support Services Department and/or designated principalsQUALIFICATIONS
The paraeducator is required to have the equivalent of two years of college or pass a competency test. The paraeducator III (library) should be proficient in, or willing to learn computer skills and keyboarding. The paraeducator should have basic knowledge in all areas of the curriculum. Must be willing to ask questions, take direction, and build a rapport with students and staff members.Desired Qualifications:

Assist individual students and small groups of identified students with instructional activities, which have been assigned and organized by a classroom teacher.Examples of this may be:
Assist in vocabulary development in the areas of reading, mathematics, social studies, and science. Tutor a student in the classroom who may have difficulty blending sounds to read. Demonstrate the ability to work with multiple supervisors. Remain confidential regarding student/school matters. Demonstrate competency with computers (word processing, database and spreadsheets). Assist in preparation, maintenance, assembling, securing, and operating instructional media and materials as directed by the professional staff. Assist in gathering materials relevant for use in units or topics of study as directed by the classroom teacher. Assist in preparation of schedules, charts and rosters for students. Assist in maintaining various files and records as directed by the professional staff. Assist with the supervision of students in the school or playground setting. Perform other appropriate duties as requested by the supervisor or teacher. Work as a professional in a collaborative team. Create a positive rapport with students and fellow staff membersWORKING CONDITIONS
Working area will be in the elementary, middle school or high school and other locations depending on the needs of the students. Provide assistance in the educational needs of students. Provide assistance in the preparation and maintenance of educational materials. Provide assistance in the supervision of students including escorting students to and from classes. Assignment will be determined on the needs of the students and is subject to change when the needs of the students change.CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students. The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
