A Teacher Assistant assists classroom teachers by providing extra individual attention and instruction to students. Helps teachers with recordkeeping, preparation for lessons and activities and supervising students. May work with special education students, or work in a school library or computer lab; may be called teacher aide or paraprofessional.
This position is a split-shift role serving as both a Teaching Assistant (TA) and Food Service staff member. The employee will support classroom instruction and student supervision while also assisting with breakfast and lunch food service.
TEACHING ASSISTANT
(TA) ROLE Assist the teacher with instructional activities, lessons, and small-group work. Collaborate with the classroom teacher. Provide one-on-one support to students who need additional help. Help prepare classroom materials, resources, and learning centers. Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and dismissal. Encourage positive behavior and reinforce classroom expectations. Support students with special learning needs as directed by the teacher. Assist with monitoring academic progress and providing feedback to the teacher. Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment. Guide students through assignments and activities while reinforcing the teacher's instructions. Help implement lesson plans and classroom routines. Support assessments, grading, and organizing student work, as allowed by school policy. Maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and displays. Assist with record-keeping, attendance, and communication as directed. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
FOOD SERVICE ROLE
The Food Server will serve food to students for breakfast and lunch. Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Monitor food distribution, ensuring that meals are served in the proper portions on trays. Examine trays to ensure that they contain required items. Place food servings on plates and trays according to orders or instructions. Stock service stations with items such as milk, napkins, and straws. Move food trays. Provide some supervision of students during the lunch period. Complete appropriate paperwork. Maintain proper sanitation of all work areas and serving utensils, containers, and food trays. Perform all other duties as assigned. Remain flexible to meet the needs of students as directed by school personnel.
Food Preparation Note:
No cooking or baking is required. Food is pre-prepared and delivered to the school site ready to serve.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher preferred. Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or youth program setting. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, and support school procedures. Patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude.

POSITION GOAL
To assist the teacher or school personnel in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups, while also supporting the school's food service operations and student meal program.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Student calendar days as assigned by administration. This employment agreement may be terminated by administration at any time during the school year. This job position is on an annual review cycle for budgetary purposes; the Teaching Assistant will be informed of any change in status on or before April 15 of the teaching year, for the following year.
