The Teaching Assistant will work closely with scholars, parents, and school administration to develop individual teaching and classroom management skills. Essential Responsibilities Support a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment where all scholars are invested in their academic excellence and character growth and can fulfill their potential Provide assistance in lesson preparation (making copies, gathering materials, passing out supplies, etc.) Assist teacher in achieving the highest outcomes for students and actively engaging in the planning process Apply classroom management techniques and appropriate scholar corrections and disciplinary actions Maintain accurate and complete records, including but not limited to: attendance, behavior, and student achievement data Set and hold scholars accountable to extremely high academic and school-wide behavioral standards Implement lessons, assessments, and character education as designed by the lead teacher Support students through one-on-one tutoring or small group instruction, implementing remediation or acceleration with guidance from the lead teacher Assist teacher in maintaining on-task behavior in the classroom by consistently complimenting, checking for understanding and refocusing students Support students on educational technology - helping with log in and computer usage, reinforcing procedures, answering questions and monitoring student activity Monitor students during lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other key transitions throughout the day Recognize, celebrate and reward scholar achievement and character development Build rapport with scholars, parents, and families Continually improve teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities Perform other duties as requested or required Demonstrates Mission Aligned Personal Qualities Live and act as a biblical role model and Open Sky Education representative in your life for our scholars, team members and community. Agree to always comply with our Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith. Agree to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team members Competencies Serving Leader Provide vigilant supervision for the physical safety and well-being of scholars while on campus or off-campus for school functions Collaborative Relationships Build rapport with scholars, parents, and families Continually improve teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities Resource Management Maintain accurate and complete records, including but not limited to: attendance, behavior, student achievement data, grades, progress reports, parent communication, textbooks, etc. Forming Character Apply classroom management techniques and appropriate scholar corrections and disciplinary actions Assume responsibility for scholar success by holding all scholars accountable to school-wide behavioral expectations Recognize, celebrate and reward scholar achievement and character development Academic Excellence Establish a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment where all scholars are invested in their academic excellence and character growth and can fulfill their potential Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable goals for the year and each interim assessment cycle Evaluate individual scholar academic progress through regular and varied assessments Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associate's Degree preferred At least one year of teacher experience is a plus Experience working with youth and families in low-income urban communities Proficient with technology Valid teaching credential or willingness to attain one preferred Personal Qualities Integrity, credibility, and passionate commitment to HOPE's mission of Christ, College, and Character Proactive and hands-on strategic thinker who enjoys tackling challenges and overcoming obstacles Strong relationship building, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Commitment to loving our scholars, an unwavering belief that all children can and must succeed, and a deep passion for developing the character of a serving leader in every child Driven by a passion for ensuring every scholar has an excellent education Open to feedback and committed to continuously improving An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
