Trenholm State Community College Position Summary Responsible to the Tutor Coordinator, Developmental Studies Specialist and/or Project Director for providing individualized and small group instruction for participants with deficiencies in basic skills areas.
Salary Information:
Peer Tutors - $15.00 per hour, up to 19 hours per week Professional Tutor - $22.88 per hour, up to 19 hours per week Essential Duties and Responsibilities Be present and on time for all scheduled tutorial sessions. Attending all tutoring workshops and meetings. Provide individualized and small group tutoring/ instruction to participants. As a peer tutor complete level I certification of the CRLA Tutor Certification Program. Coordinate with Student Support Services staff regarding methods for assisting particular participants. Act as a role model for project participants by exhibiting superior professional and ethical behavior. Maintain required documentation concerning sessions. Maintain a thorough knowledge of subject you are tutoring. Notify the Tutor Coordinator, Developmental Studies Specialist and/or Project Director immediately of any problems that occur in tutoring sessions. Notify the Tutor Coordinator, Developmental Studies Specialist and/or Project Director immediately of any needs that arise during tutoring sessions. Maintain confidentiality regarding the SSS program and the participants. 12. Other duties as assigned by Tutor Coordinator.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Completion of at least 24 credit hours of which none are developmental, or have earned an associate of bachelor degree in the subject being tutored, or have earned an associate degree. Work experience in a field related to the major. Must have a grade of "B" or higher in the subject to be tutored and experience/interest in working with persons of varying backgrounds and persons with disabilities. If a peer tutor, he/she must have the written recommendation of the instructor of the course to be tutored. Availability of duty hours not to exceed 19 hours weekly.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required :
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must have exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.
