Tutor/Therapist wanted for a sweet 27 year old young man with autism who is a largely non-verbal communicator, attending college for the first time. We are recruiting an

coach/tutor with subject expertise in high school or college, with preference for science and math coursework . We welcome you to become part of a team for an innovative home-based program which integrates life skill support with college education. This young man is engaged, bright and gentle, and can do basic self-care. However, he has difficulty initiating conversations and expressing himself, sequencing tasks, and evaluating risk. We are looking for a senior member for the academic portion of the program. Due to difficulty with oral production of novel language, he has learned the RPM letterboard method system in which he must point to letters on a board to spell out his ideas and in doing so, is able to demonstrate comprehension of the material taught. We will provide training in RPM, and until you learn the letterboard method,we can pair you with an RPM communication partner. We are looking for someone with RECENT college or upper grade high school teaching or tutoring experience who can attend college with him, break down curriculum for other staff to focus on for homework, help anticipate challenges to him learning, and help him integrate into College social life. Applicants would work a 2-5hr shift at least twice a week, including in his home program and at class. You must be patient, tolerant of his verbal scripting, and willing to wait for him to letterboard his response. And you must be an effective communicator with other team members and be interested in his unique path to learning. You would have the support of a full team and be part of an innovative multidisciplinary team implementing a program for job entry success and socialization, organized around communication and self-regulation. You would be provided training, given support through monthly team meetings, and the opportunity to make a huge difference in someone's life. Also, even those working part-time, accrue sick time. Must be 18 years or older, legal to work in U.S., available to work some daytime weekday hours for class, speak and write English, have a valid driver's license, be willing to drive client, be willing to be get covid and flu vaccinations, and be able to pass a DOJ background check. Preference is for those experienced in working with persons with autism, therapists, teachers or coaches, and/or those with familiarity with different types of learners, but training will also be provided.
