Job Description

PART-TIME READING TUTOR - FEDERAL WORK STUDY - SJCL
(CLOVIS) Under the direct supervision of a teacher, the reading tutor will work in a classroom setting with 2nd and 3rd grade students to encourage and build reading competencies. Essential Job Requirements Must have a 2-3-hour block of time between the hours of 8 a.m. -2:45 p.m. during the workweek, ideally Tuesday or Thursday but the days can be flexible. Must demonstrate understanding, patience and excellent reading skills to assist the teacher(s) by working with students to develop individual competencies to be successful readers. Ability to work with children and provide encouragement. Ability to adapt and provide tutoring instruction either one-on-one or group setting. Must be able to stand and sit at small group tables. Qualifications Currently enrolled student for the 26/27 academic year, in good academic standing at San Joaquin College of and eligible for the Federal Work Study program. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to follow written and verbal instructions. Prior experience working with children is helpful. Clearance of Risk Assessment for TB Required Behaviors Regular and on-time attendance. Required to sign in at the front office when on school site. The job must not interfere with academic studies; will work 6 hours per week not to exceed a total of 20 hours in combination with any other work study jobs. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with the supervisor, take direction, and receive and act upon constructive feedback.
Hourly Wage:
$18.00 - $23.00 Physical Abilities Ability to sit, and bend, reach in all directions: adequate sight or corrected vision for the purpose of reading printed or written materials; hear and speak to communicate with coworkers, students and the public; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment.
