Duties and Responsibilities Age-Appropriate Instruction:
Deliver engaging, personalized lessons across a vast developmental range (aligned with your preferences/strengths): Elementary (K-5): Focus on foundational literacy (phonics, reading comprehension) and basic mathematics using interactive, creative methods. Middle & High School (6-12): Assist with core academic subjects (e.g., advanced mathematics, sciences, history, English literature), essay writing, and complex problem-solving.
Homework & Assignment Help:
Review recent classroom topics, guide students through homework assignments, and unpack difficult concepts that standard classroom environments may miss.
Study & Executive Function Skills:
Coach older students on essential life skills like note-taking, organization, effective research, and time management.
Test Preparation:
Prepare students for standard classroom assessments, midterms, finals, and relevant standardized state or national exams.
Progress Tracking & Assessment:
Continuously observe and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies to meet evolving academic needs.
Stakeholder Communication:
Maintain professional communication and provide constructive feedback to parents, guardians, and occasionally teachers regarding student performance and growth.
Environment Management:
Foster a safe, friendly, and structured learning atmosphere that motivates students and respects diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
Required Qualifications & Skills Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; a Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a specific subject-matter field is highly preferred.
Experience:
Proven experience tutoring or teaching children and teenagers (K-12 context preferred).
Subject Mastery:
Deep and verifiable proficiency in core K-12 academic subjects (Math, Science, English/Reading, or Social Studies).
Adaptability & Patience:
The unique ability to transition fluidly from teaching an energetic 5-year-old the alphabet to assisting a 17-year-old with algebra.
Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex theories into easy-to-understand instructions for all age groups.
Clearance:
Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check and fingerprinting (required for working with minors). Preferred Qualifications Valid state teaching certification or license. Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish or French, depending on local demographics).
