Tutor Happy Minds Tutoring LLC Vista, CA Job Details Part-time $25 - $40 an hour 3 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Paid sick time Qualifications General academic student support English Math Working with students Full Job Description Middle School Math and Multi-Subject Tutor Happy Minds Tutoring LLC is looking for a thoughtful, kind, engaging, and dependable tutor to work with students in person at Georgina Cole Library in Carlsbad, California, Vista Library, and possibly in student's homes and other locations. Our immediate need is support for an eighth grade student in all subjects including math. The right person will understand the material, think on their feet, and explain it in multiple ways as needed to ensure it makes sense to each student who is struggling. As our caseload grows, they may also tutor other middle school students, elementary students, or small groups. This part-time employee position will begin with approximately 1-5 hours per week with great potential for additional hours. Consistent weekday after-school availability is important.
Responsibilities:
Provide individualized tutoring for middle school and elementary school students. Teach grades 6-8 math, including pre-algebra and Algebra 1 concepts. Notice when an explanation is not working and find another way to teach the concept. Help students feel respected, capable, and comfortable asking questions. Support reading, writing, math, science, social studies, homework, and study skills . Prepare for sessions and adapt instruction to each student's needs. Share accurate, brief progress updates with the owner and parents. Arrive consistently and on time for scheduled sessions.
Qualifications:
Strong middle school math skills and clear problem-solving ability. Kindness, empathy, patience, and good judgment when working with students. Honesty about what you know, what a student needs, and when you need support. Reliability, punctuality, and clear communication. Experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or working with school-age students. Consistent weekday after-school availability. Reliable transportation. Ability to successfully pass a background check before working with students. A bachelor's degree, experience with neurodivergent learners, and the ability to tutor elementary students or lead small groups are preferred but not required.
Pay and benefits:
One-on-one tutoring and teaching small groups: $29-$40 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skills.
Other assigned work:
$25 per hour. This includes lesson preparation, administrative work, training, meetings, and required travel between scheduled student locations. Necessary work-related travel expenses are reimbursed separately. Flexible schedule and paid sick leave as required by California law.
