Job Description
City Year is seeking an Academic Tutor to support students' academic and social-emotional growth in partner public schools. In this full-time role, you will provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, track student progress, and collaborate with teachers to align support with classroom instruction. You will serve as a mentor and positive role model, helping students build confidence, set goals, and develop effective learning habits. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects Support teachers with in-class instruction and classroom management Mentor students to build social-emotional skills and academic confidence Monitor and track student attendance, behavior, and performance data Communicate regularly with school staff about student progress Help plan and lead afterschool programs and enrichment activities Participate in City Year trainings, coaching, and professional development Collaborate with a diverse Ameri Corps team to support whole-school initiatives Engage with families and community partners when appropriate Model professionalism, inclusivity, and a growth mindset for students Required Skills Academic tutoring (math and ELA) Classroom management support Student mentoring and youth development Data tracking and basic progress monitoring Communication and interpersonal skills Lesson support and instructional strategies Behavior support techniques Collaboration and teamwork Basic computer and educational technology skills Time management and organization
