Location Statesboro Campus•Statesboro, GA Department Information SEES Geosciences Job Summary The Student Assistant will support the Department of School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability•Geosciences as a Geology Lab Tutor on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period. Responsibilities Tutors all introductory level geology students enrolled in GEOL 1121 andGEOL 1340
Assists in explanations of, but not limited to: Basic rock & mineral identification How to read and use topographic & geologic maps Basic math computations such as unit conversions Provides a professional, friendly, and quiet atmosphere to students who seek help Maintains neatness of the tutoring room Conducts tutoring over Zoom, if needed Tabulates data and keep basic records of student attendance Shift Specifics Up to 10 hours per week Flexible with schedule of availability Shifts available Monday•Friday Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education Minimum grade of "B" in introductory level geology coursesGEOL 1121
•"Introduction to the Earth" andGEOL 1340
•"Environmental Geology" Successful completion ofGEOL 1211
& at least 3 upper level (3000 or above) Geology courses with a minimum grade of "B" in each Preferred Experience Prior tutoring and/or leadership experience will be considered Proposed Salary $10.50 per hour This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
