Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Literacy Tutor to join our team at Robinson Elementary as part of the Save The Children initiative. This full-time position aims to improve literacy skills among students in grades K-5, fostering a love for reading and writing while providing tailored support to meet each child's unique needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers, parents, and the community to create a positive and engaging learning environment that empowers children to achieve their academic goals. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small group literacy tutoring sessions for students in grades K-5, focusing on reading comprehension, phonics, vocabulary, and writing skills. Assess students' literacy levels and develop individualized learning plans to address their specific needs and goals. Collaborate with classroom teachers to align tutoring strategies with curriculum objectives and classroom activities. Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback to students and parents regarding their achievements and areas for improvement. Create engaging and interactive lesson plans that incorporate a variety of teaching methods and materials to inspire a love for reading. Organize and participate in literacy events, workshops, and community outreach programs to promote literacy awareness and encourage family involvement. Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters student confidence and motivation. Stay current on best practices in literacy education and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance tutoring skills. Build strong relationships with students, families, and the school community to ensure a collaborative approach to literacy development. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with children in an educational setting, preferably in literacy instruction or tutoring. Strong understanding of literacy development and effective teaching strategies for diverse learners. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff. Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping children succeed academically. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment. Familiarity with assessment tools and techniques for measuring student progress in literacy. Commitment to the mission and values of Save The Children, including promoting equity and inclusivity in education. Proficiency in using technology and educational software to support literacy instruction. Background check clearance as required by local regulations.
