Assistant Teacher /

Tutor:

Role Profile Role Purpose The Assistant Teacher / Tutor serves as a critical Small-Group Lead and Transition Facilitator for I Would Rather Be Reading . This role executes targeted, high-dosage literacy tutoring in a fast-paced environment and manages daily student transitions to ensure site operations run smoothly and effectively support the Lead Teacher.

Two locations:

Kerrick Elementary (2210 Upper Hunters Trace) OR Southern Star Baptist Church (2308 Algonquin Pkwy)

Key Responsibilities Targeted Literacy Instruction:

Plan and execute rapid, high-dosage small-group reading tutoring. Sessions run 15-20 minutes long throughout programming hours to ensure every enrolled student receives at least two targeted sessions per week.

Transition & Classroom Management:

Proactively assist with activity transitions to maintain engagement, manage student behavior, and support the Lead Teacher with site logistics and safety protocols as needed.

Data Tracking & Assessment:

Maintain accurate progress logs. Strictly follow the program assessment schedule to measure student growth and support efficacy reporting.

Community Engagement & Optional Hours:

Participate in optional non-tutoring hours as available, including middle school weekend programming and community tabling events to promote I Would Rather Be Reading .

Compensation, Hours, & Schedule Pay Rate:

$21.00 - $24.00/hour (determined by experience and site-specific grant funding).

Weekly Commitment:

8-12 hours per week, covering direct student instruction, prep, and administrative tasks.

Site Operating Days:

Sites run on either a Monday-Thursday (Southern Star) or Tuesday-Thursday (Kerrick Elementary) schedule. Daily Shift Breakdown (

Student Hours:

4:30 PM - 6:00 PM): 3:30/45 PM - 4:15

PM:

On-site planning and material setup. 4:15 PM - 4:30

PM:

Team allignment, initial transition setup, and student arrival. 4:30 PM - 6:00

PM:

Fast-paced small-group tutoring sessions and activity facilitation. 6:00 PM - 6:15

PM:

Site cleanup, log completion, and prep for the next day.

Required Meetings & Mandatory Training Mandatory Onboarding Training:

Several evening sessions between September 14th - September 22nd (All sessions are required prior to site placement).

Staff Meetings:

Mandatory off-site staff meetings occur once per month.

Qualifications & Support Experience & Mindset:

Prior experience with school-aged youth in educational or recreational settings. Must bring high energy, reliability, and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.

Resources Provided:

Full curriculum, all instructional materials, comprehensive initial training, and ongoing coaching are provided.

Compliance:

Must successfully pass all mandatory background checks and clearances.

Pay:

$21.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 9.0 - 12.0 per week
