About Us:
We are a small, student-focused tutoring business dedicated to helping individuals with dyslexia and other reading challenges thrive using the Barton Reading & Spelling System. Our mission is to empower students by building strong foundational literacy skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Overview The ideal candidate will either be certified in the Barton system or willing to complete the required training. This position is perfect for someone passionate about literacy, education, and making a meaningful difference in students' lives. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate tutor to join our educational team. Candidate would have dyslexia (preferred), a strong background in teaching and tutoring, with the ability to engage students of various ages and learning abilities. This role involves developing personalized relationships with students and families , utilizing the Barton Reading and Spelling System, and fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages student growth and achievement. We are looking for someone who understands the challenges of learning. If you, yourself have experienced this, you are the candidate we are looking for. Responsibilities Be able to use the Barton Reading and Spelling system to meet the unique needs of each student. Utilize the Barton Reading and Spelling system to enhance the tutoring experience and facilitate effective learning. Provide one-on-one sessions 2 times weekly per student, ensuring comprehension and retention of material. Manage tutoring dynamics effectively, maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere for learning. Communicate regularly with students and their families regarding progress, challenges, and strategies for improvement. Support students with special education needs by adapting teaching methods and materials accordingly. Foster an inclusive environment for all learners, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities. The Tutor must be willing to travel. The Tutor must understand that this is a paid contractor position (meaning you will NEED to fill out a 10-99 & save your receipts for gas / travel to be written off come the end of the year) All materials are provided by your employer - the training in the Barton Reading and Spelling system is hands on throughout the 10 book series. It is imperative to understand and consider that the position is a commitment to your students and families.Qualifications:
Proven experience in curriculum development (preferred) Strong tutoring skills with a focus on individualized instruction to cater to different learning styles and disabilities. Excellent communication skills to effectively convey information and foster open dialogue with students and parents. Experience working with children in various educational settings, including early childhood education or preschool environments (preferred) Familiarity with classroom management techniques to maintain an organized and respectful learning space. Knowledge of the Barton Reading and Spelling system is a huge plus Background in childcare or special education is advantageous for providing comprehensive support to all students. Preferred minimum of a high school diploma (college degree or coursework in education or related field preferred) Must pass the Barton Tutor Screening and complete required Barton training (Level 1 training required before starting; additional levels preferred or will be provided) Strong organization, and interpersonal skills Comfortable using Zoom or other video platforms if tutoring remotely Must be dependable and committed to consistent schedulingPreferred Skills:
Background in education, special education, speech-language pathology, or related fields Familiarity with Orton-Gillingham-based programs or structured literacy approaches Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeedSchedule:
