Job Description

The Department of Languages and Cultures is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to work as a German tutor in the Language Hub. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Make sure to include all required documents listed below, as i ncomplete applications will not be considered. Tutor students enrolled in German courses, particularly lower-division courses, in person and virtually. Complete a tutoring certification program, model problem-solving skills and study strategies, assist in curriculum design for the Language Hub, and improve personal language skills. Participate in the production and dissemination of promotional materials and events. Assist in hosting events in the Language Hub. Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager. Must be a current UVU student registered for a minimum of 6.0 credits Native or near-native proficiency in language comprehension and production. Knowledge and ability to explain, in detail, aspects of German (grammar, vocabulary, syntax, pronunciation, colloquial usage, etc.) as covered in German 3050, or equivalent. Completion of GER 3050, or equivalent, with a g rade of at least an A-. Available to work between 12-15 hours per week, during normal business hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) and possibly some evening hours to be determined. Preferred Qualifications Engagement with the German-speaking community outside the academic setting. Majoring or minoring in German. Experience in teaching or tutoring. Experience in utilizing tutoring services. Experience in collating and analyzing data in Microsoft Excel. Ethical, responsible, motivated self-starter who needs little supervision after training. Evidence of advanced customer service and interpersonal skills. General computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.).
