Job Description

Underdog Sports Leagues is hiring part-time Volleyball League Supervisors to help run our adult 21+ indoor and beach volleyball leagues in Portland. We pay $21.50/hour , offer a flexible part-time schedule , and offer an education benefit : eligible staff can earn $500 toward college tuition, student loan debt, or a child's 529 education savings plan after working 100 hours in a calendar year. This is an active, on-your-feet role for someone who knows volleyball and can be the face of the league. You'll be the on-site lead for Underdog — keeping games moving, making rulings when needed, solving problems early, and making sure players have a safe, fair, and fun experience. We'll train you on Underdog rules, systems, and procedures, but this is not an entry-level volleyball role. You should already understand the game well enough to confidently make calls, explain rulings, and be the volleyball authority on site — including around players who have been playing for years. You do not need official coaching or officiating experience, but you do need real volleyball knowledge. Our indoor volleyball leagues run year-round, and our beach volleyball leagues run April through August. Pay, Schedule & Education Benefit $21.50/hour Flexible part-time schedule , generally 5-20 hours per week $500 education benefit after working 100 hours in a calendar year Benefit can be used toward college tuition, student loan debt, or a child's 529 education savings plan Year-round indoor volleyball shifts and seasonal sand volleyball shifts Schedule Details This is a part-time position, generally 5-20 hours per week. Shifts are usually 4-5 hours on weeknights, with leagues starting as early as 6 PM and ending as late as 11 PM. We work with complicated schedules. You tell us when you're available, and we work around that. We have room for people who want one night a week, and for people who want as many hours as possible. What You'll Do As a Volleyball League Supervisor, you are responsible for making sure the league night runs smoothly. This is not a role where you sit back and wait for questions. Great supervisors are actively watching the courts, anticipating issues, keeping games on schedule, and solving problems before players have to ask.
Responsibilities include:
Set up and break down volleyball equipment Step in early when there are questions, confusion, or potential conflicts Check in teams and help players get to the right courts Monitor games, teams, timing, equipment, and player experience throughout the night Make calls, explain rulings, and help enforce league rules Keep matches moving and the night on schedule Communicate clearly with players, captains, facility staff, and the Underdog office Represent Underdog in a friendly, confident, and professional way Our leagues are meant to be safe, fair, and fun. Your job is to protect that Oasis — keeping the night fair, smooth, and welcoming while stepping in confidently when something needs to be handled. What We're Looking For We are looking for dependable, outgoing people who love volleyball and are comfortable taking ownership of a busy league night.
You should be:
Reliable and punctual Comfortable being the person in charge on site Confident making rulings and comfortable being the "bad guy" when necessary Able to communicate clearly with players and captains Proactive, not reactive Comfortable being on your feet and moving throughout the shift Good at staying calm when things get busy Friendly, but able to be firm when needed You also must: Have reliable transportation Be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. of equipment to and from your car Be over 18 years old Benefits $21.50/hour Flexible part-time schedule $500 education benefit after eligibility requirements are met Referral program Year-round indoor volleyball shifts Seasonal sand volleyball shifts A fun, active role working around adult recreational sports
