We are seeking an enthusiastic, safety-conscious Outdoor Education Teacher to inspire and engage youths through dynamic, hands-on learning expeditions. In this role, you will lead educational activities that promote environmental awareness, teamwork, and personal growth while ensuring a safe and supportive environment. You will design and facilitate experiential curricula focused on earth sciences, paleontology, and geology. Your classroom will be the great outdoors, where you will guide students through fossil hunting excursions, cave explorations (spelunking), and wilderness navigation. The ideal candidate blends a deep passion for natural history with a rigorous commitment to backcountry safety and student mentorship.

Responsibilities Curriculum Design:

Create engaging, standards-aligned outdoor lesson plans covering paleontology, geology, hydrology, and ecosystems.

Field Leadership:

Lead students on multi-day or single-day field trips, including cave explorations, fossil digs, and backcountry hikes.

Safety Management:

Ensure the safety of all participants by adhering to first aid protocols, CPR procedures, AED operation, and other safety standards at all times.

Implement strict risk-management protocols for specialized environments like caves, rocky terrain, and remote wilderness.

Student Supervision :

Supervise children during outdoor excursions, ensuring proper child supervision and childcare practices are maintained throughout activities.

Student Mentorship:

Foster a supportive, inclusive, and environmentally conscious community among diverse student groups. Manage behavior effectively through positive behavior management techniques to create an inclusive and respectful environment.

Collaboration :

Work with team members to plan and execute youth development programs that foster leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.

Record Keeping:

Maintain clear records of attendance, participation, and any incidents or accidents.

Environmental Stewardship:

Teach Leave No Trace principles and cultivate a deep respect for natural and historical preservation.

Equipment Care:

Maintain, audit, and safely transport specialized field gear, including helmets, headlamps, excavation tools, and first-aid kits, etc.

Requirements Education:

Bachelor's degree in Outdoor Education, Geology, Paleontology, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Certifications:

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain before start date).

Technical Experience:

Documented experience in cave exploration (spelunking) and fossil identification/excavation techniques.

Educational Experience:

Proven experience working with children in educational or childcare settings; camp experience or daycare background is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of childhood development principles and effective classroom management techniques, expecially in outdoor environments.

Physical Fitness:

Ability to hike strenuous terrain, carry packs up to 40 lbs, and navigate confined or uneven spaces comfortably. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining high energy levels and enthusiasm.

Background Check:

Must clear a comprehensive criminal background check and child abuse registry clearance.

Excellent communication skills:

Ability to work well with children, parents, and team members; theater or babysitting experience can be advantageous.

Leadership :

Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide young participants effectively.

Driver's License :

Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or clean driving record to operate student transport vehicles.
