Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and experienced High School AP and IB English Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous instruction in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate English courses, fostering a love for literature, writing, and critical thinking among students. This role offers an opportunity to influence young minds, prepare students for college-level coursework, and contribute to a dynamic academic environment focused on excellence and innovation. Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive curriculum aligned with AP and IB standards, incorporating innovative instructional strategies and learning technology. Design engaging lesson plans that promote critical analysis, creative writing, and literacy development across diverse student populations. Deliver high-quality instruction in English language arts, including literature analysis, essay writing, research projects, and standardized testing preparation. Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations; provide timely feedback to support academic growth. Mentor students in their academic pursuits, including college preparation, extracurricular activities such as journalism or literary clubs, and individual tutoring sessions. Manage classroom environments effectively to ensure a respectful, inclusive, and productive learning atmosphere. Incorporate best practices in classroom management, behavior management, and differentiated instruction to meet diverse learner needs. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional design, and school-wide initiatives related to literacy education and educational administration. Stay current with developments in education technology, research in linguistics or literacy education, and updates to AP/IB curricula to continually enhance teaching effectiveness. Skills Strong expertise in curriculum development tailored for AP style, IB standards, Chicago Manual of Style, and instructional design principles. Excellent writing skills with proficiency in copy editing, proofreading, creative writing, and research methodologies. Experience working with students across various learning needs; familiarity with special education or Montessori approaches is a plus. Demonstrated ability in classroom management, lesson planning, assessment design (including standardized testing), and higher education teaching techniques. Effective communication skills for engaging students, mentoring peers, and collaborating with staff. Organizational skills necessary for managing multiple classes, extracurricular activities like journalism or library services programs, and academic advising roles. Knowledge of learning technology tools to enhance instruction and student engagement. Prior experience in private schools or institutions emphasizing literacy education or behavior management is desirable. This position offers an enriching environment for educators passionate about fostering academic excellence in English language arts while preparing students for success at the college level through rigorous AP and IB coursework.
