Job Description

Coastal Therapeutic Riding Program (CTRP) is an established nonprofit therapeutic riding and equine-assisted services program serving children and adults with disabilities in the Wilmington, North Carolina area. Founded in 1999, CTRP is committed to providing safe, meaningful, and individualized experiences that help participants build confidence, independence, physical skills, and connections through horses. We are looking for a PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) to join our instructional team. About the Position The CTRI will provide individualized therapeutic riding instruction and related equine-assisted services to participants with a variety of disabilities and abilities. Our instructors work closely with trained volunteers, program staff, families, and our carefully selected therapy horses to create safe and successful lessons. This is an opportunity to become part of an established program with an experienced team, dedicated volunteers, and wonderful horses and participants.
Responsibilities include:
Plan and provide safe, individualized therapeutic riding lessons Adapt instruction and activities to meet individual participant goals and abilities Work effectively with trained volunteers and program staff Maintain a strong focus on participant safety and horse welfare Follow PATH Intl. standards, CTRP policies, and established safety procedures Communicate professionally with participants, families, volunteers, and coworkers Monitor and respond appropriately to participant and horse needs during lessons Assist with lesson preparation, horse selection, and other program activities as needed Contribute positively to a collaborative, mission-driven team
Qualifications:
Current PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) certification required Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred Strong horsemanship and knowledge of horse behavior Ability to teach riders with a variety of physical, cognitive, developmental, and/or emotional needs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Dependable, patient, adaptable, and safety-minded Ability to work effectively with volunteers Commitment to horse welfare and quality equine-assisted services Ability to work outdoors and perform the physical requirements associated with therapeutic riding instruction What We Offer CTRP offers a supportive and professional environment where instructors can focus on what matters most—providing high-quality services to participants while maintaining the wellbeing of our horses. You will work alongside experienced instructors, dedicated volunteers, and a team that genuinely cares about the people and horses we serve. Schedule Part-time instructor opportunities are available, with scheduling based on program needs and instructor availability. Additional lesson opportunities may be available as our program grows.
