DESCRIPTION
: This recruitment is to accept applications for instructors to teach courses in Adult Basic Education, English Prep (pre-college level reading and writing), pre-college math, and high school completion departments. Areas of special interest are developmental reading and writing courses; high school completion social sciences, science and math; and Adult Basic Education integrated courses. MCC consists of several facilities within the complex. The Minimum Security Unit is a 300 bed, adult minimum custody facility; Twin Rivers Unit is an 800 bed medium custody and long-term minimum facility. We also provide educational services to the Special Offender Unit and to the Intensive Management Unit. MCC is located approximately 30 miles north of Seattle, WA. Edmonds College at MCC offers Basic Education for Adults and vocational programming to students, including an AAS-T degree program, High School Credentials, CIS certificate, and CTAP certificates. The Monroe Correctional Complex offers incarcerated individuals with education and work opportunities that will assist them in their transition back to society. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
: Master's Degree in Education or a related field OR a Bachelor's and related experience. Two years of teaching experience in the field. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English with a diverse student population. Successful completion of DOC and Edmonds College required training.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
: Successful experience teaching at-risk adult students or youth re-engagement program students. Successful experience working in a team of educators. Experience working in a Correctional Facility
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed in a classroom which requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors typically use a personal computer in the work environment. Additionally, this position will be located inside a Washington State Correctional Facility where the potential for violence exists.
COMPENSATION
: The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step A. Special assignments are paid at $45 per hour, and meeting stipends are compensated per the CBA rate, starting at $55 for meetings lasting from 30 minutes up to 2 hours.
