Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference each day by supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter on a contract basis. This essential role gives you the opportunity to facilitate effective communication and equal access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in an educational setting. You'll be a valued partner in fostering inclusion and helping students thrive in their academic environment. This position is for renewal placements only, ideal for those who have previously worked in similar settings and are ready to return or continue their impact.
Key Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in schools or educational environments Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Understanding of Deaf culture and the unique needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students Compliance with state and national interpreter certification standards (RID or equivalent) Ability to work collaboratively with education professionals, students, and families Excellent listening, memory, and communication skills Adaptability and professionalism within dynamic classroom or campus settingsKey Responsibilities:
Accurately interpret spoken language into ASL for students, staff, and parents during classroom instruction and school activities Foster an inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring everyone has access to curriculum and extracurricular activities Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting assignments Assist in the preparation of learning materials as needed to support student success Provide clear, impartial, and confidential communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and others Collaborate with teachers and support staff to address student needs and encourage independence Rediscover the rewards of working in an educational environment where your skills make a true impact.
