Job Description

Resume and Cover Letter Required The Elections Deputy assists in organizing and conducting elections within the County to contribute to their efficient and legally proper conduct. All such elections are conducted in strict accordance with state statutes and the regulations of the Office of the Secretary of State. All these election and voter registration services are performed under the guidance of the Auditor's elections administrative staff. This position represents the entry level of elections administration support staff. This position assists in the actual conduct of elections on various election days as well as the scheduling and organizing of local election boards and committees. Positions of the class are distinguished from Certified Election Administrators in that these positions are not required to hold the Washington State Administrator of Elections certification granted by the Secretary of State. Eligibility for progression to Certified Election Administrator requires a period of two years of training, experience and examinations. This position reports directly to the County Auditor. Supervision of others is not a regular part of the job, but incumbents may assist in overseeing, scheduling and monitoring local election officials and temporary employees on election nights and in voter registration services. Assisting in organizing and preparing for elections : This complex process includes such tasks as: candidate registration, ballot development, overseeing programming and updating of computerized election equipment, processing of ballots for mailing. Assisting with elections : Processing of voted ballots assuring accuracy and integrity of ballots with compliance to statute and election regulation.
Voter Registration :
This function, which is carried out throughout the year, involves such tasks as: registering voters in the Auditor's office and in other public places; periodically processing the entire list of voters by obtaining verifications of such voters and changing voter records to reflect the accuracy of the verification. Preparing records and reports of voters and elections : This includes such assignments as: producing reports of registered voters from the Auditor's computer system; preparing reports certifying results of elections; preparing printed reports of statistical information on elections; producing and submitting reports to the office of the Secretary of State on registered voters; and assisting in verifying and recording the accuracy and accountability of ballots from elections. General office operation : Tasks include issuing voter cards, safekeeping election materials, books and records, and preparing vouchers for compensation election workers.

Required :
Familiarity with state and federal election laws and regulations; Planning and organizing detailed projects; Computer keyboard and peripheral equipment operation; General office skills; Valid Driver's License with proof of automobile insurance;

Must be a registered voter of the county.

n/a These skills and abilities typically are acquired through a combination of experience and training which would include two years of office experience and certification as Washington State Administrator of Elections. The job's work is carried out in an office while sitting at a desk, computer terminal or station, standing from time to time at a public service counter. Some travel may be required to attend conferences and transporting of ballots. This may involve carrying boxes, paper supplies and other materials of light to medium weight. On election days incumbents work at receiving ballot boxes and physically sorting and preparing ballots for counting. This work may require long evenings and weekend work to facilitate timely elections.
