03/11/2026 4:15 PM The Rockland County Department of Social Services is seeking a candidate to conduct interviews and perform technical tasks related to identifying jobs, education and training opportunities and assisting individuals in obtaining employment and assessing their potential for various positions.

Job Description:

Duties include interviewing applicants to collect relevant information, conducting employment assessments of each client to determine employability and creating employment plans outlining specific goals and suitable work assignments, initiating and maintaining employer partnerships to identify job opportunities, referring clients to appropriate Federal, State and local agencies for assistance, communicating with agency staff to share information on job placements, employability and related matters, authorizing subsidy payments, collecting and updating data on clients, including attendance records, job skills, training programs and treatment plans, evaluating clients to identify employment barriers and referring cases for court action. Candidates must possess working knowledge of general employment rules and regulations; working knowledge of interviewing principles, practices and techniques; the ability to prepare written material; the ability to communicate, both orally and in writing; the ability to understand written materials; the ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others and the ability to use computer software and applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) •.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and three (3) years of paid work experience in employment interviewing and/or job placement or five (5) years of paid work experience that involved direct public contact•; or An Associate's degree or equivalent college credits (minimum of sixty (60) credits) and one (1) year of paid work experience in employment interviewing and/or job placement or three (3) years of paid work experience that involved direct public contact •.

NOTE:

A Bachelor's degree or higher may be deemed fully qualifying. •To be demonstrated during the probationary period. •Public contact shall be defined as direct contract (e.g., in-person or telephone interactions) with clients, customers or members of the public that involves persuasion, negotiations, counseling, gathering, disseminating, or clarifying information, and inspection activities that include contact with individuals, or similar activities. The nature of the contact is such that it requires judgment and independent thinking on the part of the individual in dealing with or responding to another person.

Other Requirements and Information:

Candidate must be a legal resident of New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. New York State Civil Service approved Non-competitive title in the

NY HELPS

Program.

Salary and Benefits:
