Job Requirements Performs inspection, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of complex medical equipment under general supervision. Ensures equipment operates safely, accurately, and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer specifications, departmental standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. Documents service activities, maintenance records, and equipment status within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Collaborates with clinical staff, vendors, and technical resources to diagnose and resolve equipment issues, minimizing operational disruptions and downtime. Supports assigned service lines and provides Clinical Engineering services across system locations as needed to meet operational and patient care requirements. Primary Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.  Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, repair, installation, calibration, and servicing of complex diagnostic, therapeutic, laboratory, and biomedical research equipment in accordance with departmental standards, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements.  Conduct manual, software-based, electrical safety, performance, and operational tests to verify equipment accuracy, reliability, and safe operation; identify actual or potential equipment deficiencies and implement corrective actions.  Diagnose equipment malfunctions, perform repairs, replace defective components, and coordinate vendor or third-party service support when appropriate.  Document service requests, maintenance activities, inspection findings, test results, corrective actions, and equipment status in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).  Collaborate with nursing, allied health, medical staff, vendors, and technical resources to troubleshoot equipment issues, provide technical support, and minimize operational disruptions and downtime.  Evaluate new, rental, demonstration, and replacement medical equipment; participate in equipment acceptance testing; and provide recommendations regarding acquisition, implementation, maintenance, and supportability.  Maintain test equipment, tools, technical documentation, and departmental records in compliance with organizational policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.  Prioritize and complete assigned work orders, service requests, and corrective maintenance activities within established service-level expectations.  Provide Clinical Engineering services for assigned service lines and support other system locations as operational needs require.  Participate in staff education and training activities related to equipment operation, safety, and maintenance practices.  Participate in assigned on-call rotations and provide support to affiliated facilities as operational needs require.  Perform all other duties as assigned. Work Experience Education & Experience - Required  Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Three (3) years of experience installing, inspecting, testing, calibrating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing medical equipment in a healthcare, laboratory, or biomedical environment. Education & Experience - Preferred  Relevant manufacturer training and/or professional certification in Clinical Engineering, biomedical equipment technology, or a related specialty area.  Relevant manufacturer training and/or professional certification, such as Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or other Clinical Engineering certifications. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities  Knowledge of electronics, biomedical equipment systems, and engineering principles used in the inspection, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment.  Knowledge of electrical safety principles, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry best practices applicable to medical equipment management.  Ability to analyze technical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals to diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine appropriate corrective actions.  Skill in troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and verifying the performance of complex medical equipment.  Proficiency in the use of specialized electronic, electrical safety, and biomedical test equipment.  Knowledge of alternating-current (AC) and direct-current (DC) circuits, digital electronics, microprocessors, and related electronic systems used in medical equipment.  Ability to safely and accurately operate electronic, electrical, and pneumatic measuring devices, test instruments, hand tools, and soldering/desoldering equipment.  Ability to identify equipment deficiencies, safety hazards, and compliance concerns and implement appropriate corrective measures.  Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manuals, manufacturer specifications, service documentation, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.  Proficiency with computers, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and other software applications used for service documentation, reporting, and equipment tracking.  Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and clinical applications relevant to the medical equipment supported within assigned service lines.  Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate professionally with clinical staff, physicians, vendors, management, and technical resources.  Ability to prioritize and manage multiple service requests, organize work independently, and respond to changing operational needs.  Ability to participate in on-call rotations, travel between system locations, and provide support across multiple facilities as operational needs require.
