Job Title:
HVAC + Sheet Metal Designer and Drafter Job Description We are seeking an experienced HVAC/Sheet Metal Detailer to join our team. This role involves supporting the design, detailing, and fabrication of complex industrial ventilation and ductwork systems. The position is primarily office-based and focuses on reverse-engineering existing systems using 3D scan data, drawings, and field measurements to create fabrication-ready models and drawings. Responsibilities Reverse-engineer existing ductwork and ventilation systems using 3D scan data, customer drawings, and field measurements. Develop detailed 3D models and fabrication-ready drawings for replacement ductwork and sheet metal assemblies. Create cut lists, material requirements, and fabrication documents for manufacturing. Perform material takeoffs and calculate quantities required for purchasing and production. Compile takeoff information into spreadsheets and coordinate with purchasing/material teams. Support field walkthroughs as needed to validate scope, verify measurements, and gather missing information. Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and production teams to ensure designs are accurate and manufacturable. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience in HVAC detailing, sheet metal detailing, industrial ductwork design, or mechanical drafting/fabrication detailing. Proven experience creating fabrication-ready drawings used directly by manufacturing or shop personnel. Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and field measurements. Experience working independently and managing design projects from concept through fabrication. Additional Skills & Qualifications Preferred software experience with AutoCAD MEP, Autodesk Fabrication CAMduct, Design2Fab, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks. Background in HVAC fabrication, sheet metal manufacturing, industrial ventilation systems, mechanical fabrication, shipbuilding/marine, manufacturing drafting, or pre-construction detailing. Work Environment This is an onsite position located on the second floor, accessible by stairs only. The role is primarily office-based with potential participation in walkthroughs aboard ships or in the field. The work schedule is day shift from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The role offers 2 weeks of PTO, 6 sick days, and holidays. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
