We are a growing company that is looking for a full time steel detailer/drafter to assist with structural and ornamental designs.
Overview:
A Steel Drafter/Detailer plays a crucial role in the construction industry by producing detailed drawings and plans for the fabrication and installation of structural steel components. This position involves translating engineering designs and specifications into precise drawings that guide the manufacturing and construction processes.Responsibilities:
Interpretation of Engineering Designs:
Review architectural and engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand the structural requirements and design intent. Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to clarify design details and resolve any discrepancies.Detailing and Drafting:
Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or Tekla Structures, to create detailed drawings and plans for structural steel components. Develop shop drawings, erection plans, and assembly drawings that accurately depict the size, shape, and configuration of steel elements. Incorporate dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and weld symbols into drawings according to industry standards.Dimensioning and Annotation:
Apply appropriate dimensioning techniques to ensure accuracy and clarity in drawings. Add annotations, callouts, and labels to provide additional information and instructions for fabrication and installation. Coordination withFabrication and Construction Teams:
Coordinate with the fabrication team to ensure that drawings are translated into accurate steel components during the manufacturing process. Communicate with construction teams to address any questions or concerns related to the erection and installation of steel structures on-site.Quality Control:
Conduct self-checks and reviews of drawings to verify accuracy and completeness. Collaborate with quality control inspectors and project managers to ensure that drawings meet project requirements and industry standards.Documentation and Record-Keeping:
Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and project documentation. Update drawings as needed to reflect changes or revisions during the design and construction phases.Qualifications:
Previous experience as a steel drafter or detailer, with a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and construction processes. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, particularly AutoCAD and/or Tekla Structures. Knowledge of engineering principles, building codes, and industry standards related to steel detailing. Attention to detail and accuracy in drafting, with the ability to interpret complex engineering designs and specifications. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with interdisciplinary teams.Education:
Associate's degree or vocational training in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred. Certification in computer-aided design (CAD) software may be beneficial.Pay:
