Full Job Description Description:
The Lead CAD Designer role is suited for a highly self-motivated individual who is ready to work in a fast-paced environment. The primary responsibility of the Lead CAD Designer is to manage of team of CAD Technicians who are responsible for the creation of 3D parts, complex assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks to support the engineering group in the quoting, design and fabrication process. Supervises and coordinates CAD operations, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of CAD drawings, models, and technical documentation. Manages a team of CAD operators and designers, providing guidance, training, and leadership to achieve technical standards. Collaborates with project engineers, management, and other departments to support the design and manufacturing process. Assigns and schedules CAD work to team members, ensuring projects are prioritized and deadlines are met. Reviews CAD drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to engineering specifications and standards. Implements and maintains CAD standards, ensuring consistency across all drawings and technical documents. Oversees the use, maintenance, and updates of CAD software and hardware, staying current with industry trends and technological advancements. Verifies design dimensions and tolerances to ensure compatibility with project specifications. Checks and approves detailed drawings and models prior to submission for fabrication or production. Generates bills of materials (BOMs) for engineering projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Updates and revises drawings, assemblies, and BOMs based on feedback, testing results, and project changes. Monitors project progress, identifying potential risks or delays. Supports the production team during the fabrication phase, ensuring that CAD drawings align with manufacturing requirements. Conducts quality assurance checks on completed CAD work to maintain accuracy and detail standards. Maintains a comprehensive digital archive of CAD files, drawings, and project documentation for easy retrieval and future reference. Leads project meetings to discuss CAD requirements, project updates, and technical challenges with team members and stakeholders. Acts as a liaison between the CAD department and other departments. Researches and selects appropriate materials and components for design projects, based on load calculations and stress analysis. Reports to management on project status, team performance, and CAD department activities. Handles technical escalations from the CAD team, providing solutions and guidance for complex design challenges. Organizes and conducts training sessions on new CAD software features, ensuring team proficiency and skill development. Monitors workload distribution within the CAD team, reallocating resources as needed to balance project demands. Develops and documents internal CAD workflows and procedures, ensuring consistency in project execution. Ensures that CAD data is backed up regularly and securely, preventing data loss or corruption
Requirements:
Associate's degree in computer-aided drafting and design, engineering technology or similar technical degree 7-10 hands on experience with SolidWorks and other 3D parametric modeling tools (Inventor, Fusion 360, PTC Creo, etc.) Ability to lead a team of designers Knowledge of manufacturing processes and how it relates to design Proven ability to collaborate and communicate with multiple stakeholders at all levels Ability to pay attention to fine details. SolidWorks certifications, highly preferred
