Job Description
About the Role WAVR Technologies is seeking a hands-on Thermal Systems & Process Engineer to help develop, build, and improve the thermal backend of our advanced water-generation systems. This is not a simulation-only or desk-based engineering position. The successful candidate will work closely with our senior R&D engineer and spend significant time designing, assembling, plumbing, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, modifying physical prototypes, and helping scale successful designs from prototype and pilot stages toward larger-scale, reliable, and manufacturable systems. Experience with scaling up thermal, fluid, or process systems is highly preferred. We are looking for someone who understands thermodynamics in both theory and practice—someone who can perform the necessary calculations, then walk into the lab and make the system work. Key Responsibilities Design, build, test, and improve thermal and fluid-handling subsystems. Work with boilers, evaporators, heaters, heat exchangers, condensers, pumps, valves, sensors, and associated components. Design and assemble liquid-flow and piping systems, including component sizing, routing, fittings, pressure-drop evaluation, and leak prevention. Diagnose thermal, mechanical, fluid-flow, and basic electrical problems during prototype testing. Select and specify system components based on performance, safety, reliability, and manufacturability. Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and prototype components. Build and modify test setups, collect performance data, and translate test results into practical design improvements. Support the integration of thermal, mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems. Maintain clear engineering documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, test procedures, and design changes. Collaborate closely with engineers and technicians in a fast-moving prototype-development environment. Required Qualifications An advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and thermal-system design. Practical experience building, operating, testing, or troubleshooting boilers, evaporators, steam/vapor systems, or similar thermal equipment. Hands-on mechanical aptitude and the ability to assemble and modify real hardware. Experience with liquid-flow systems, particularly piping, tubing, pumps, valves, fittings, and flow control. Ability to move comfortably between engineering analysis and physical implementation. Strong troubleshooting skills and a willingness to take ownership of problems through resolution. A collaborative, low-ego working style and the ability to give and receive direct, constructive feedback. Flexibility and patience when working with evolving prototype designs. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. with relevant hands-on research, postdoctoral, or industry experience. Alternatively, a master's degree with at least five years of relevant professional experience. Experience with 3D CAD design and rapid prototyping. Working knowledge of electrical circuits and electrical hardware, including heaters, sensors, relays, power supplies, control panels, and basic wiring/debugging. Experience designing or troubleshooting heat exchangers, distillation systems, water-treatment systems, refrigeration systems, or other thermal-process equipment. Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, process controls, and system integration. Experience working in a startup, R&D laboratory, pilot-scale, or prototype-development environment. A bachelor's degree alone does not meet the educational requirement for this position. What We Value We value engineers who build—not just engineers who talk about building.
