Job Title CNC Process Engineer II or III As the CNC Process Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and standardizing CNC machining processes in support of CoorsTek's advanced ceramics manufacturing operations. You will serve as a key contributor to the Machining and Grinding Center of Excellence (COE), providing technical leadership and training in multi-axis CNC programming, process development, and cross-facility support. The position requires a high level of autonomy and expertise to drive process consistency, improve machining efficiency, and support new product introduction across multiple facilities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
CNC Programming & Process Development Develop, optimize, and maintain multi-axis CNC programs for mills, lathes, and grinding equipment. Establish standardized programming methodologies, tooling strategies, and process documentation. Support new product introduction (NPI) through process design, prove-out, and validation. Perform complex set-ups and operate a variety of CNC equipment using an advanced level of tooling knowledge. Equipment Maintenance Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues and implement corrective actions. Perform preventative maintenance functions (i.e. Ball bar, changing coolants, lubricants, filters, etc.) and update PM schedules as needed. Perform intermediate troubleshooting and repair of equipment including replacing pumps, aligning tool changers, repairing probes, and plumbing coolant, air, and vacuum. Coordinate with vendors for advanced equipment repairs. Quality & Process Control Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements to ensure conformance. Perform in-process inspections and collaborate with quality engineers to resolve nonconformances. Interpret CMM reports and validate inspection techniques. Utilize SPC methods to monitor process stability and identify sources of variation. Continuous Improvement & Data Analysis Lead or participate in Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement initiatives. Design and execute experiments to improve machining processes, including data collection and statistical analysis. Drive improvements in cycle time, yield, and process capability. Leadership & Knowledge Transfer Serve as a technical resource and mentor for CNC programmers and machinists. Provide training in CNC programming (e.g., Mastercam) and machining best practices. Support development of COE capabilities, including standardization and best practice deployment across sites. Provide remote and on-site technical support to multiple manufacturing locations. Contribute to the development and expansion of the Machining Center of Excellence.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred 3 or more years of demonstrated experience programming CNC machines to tight tolerances. Six Sigma certification a plus. Proficient with MasterCAM and post processor development. Proficient with a variety of CNC equipment controls and materials. Full understanding of G and M code functions.
Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience setting up and using NC simulation such as NCSIMUL or Vericut. Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong knowledge of GD&T with demonstrated ability to produce prototype parts from blueprint/drawing. Strong mathematical skills in Trigonometry/geometry. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, great attention to detail as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.
