Working closely with project managers, field supervision, design professionals, subcontractors, and vendors. The Project Engineer helps keep HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, hydronic, and related scopes coordinated, documented, and on schedule from preconstruction through closeout. Key Responsibilities Support the Project Manager and field team with day-to-day administration of assigned mechanical construction projects. Review plans, specifications, addenda, and contract requirements; help identify scope gaps, conflicts, constructability concerns, and coordination needs. Prepare, maintain, and track submittals, requests for information (RFIs), procurement logs, equipment schedules, change documentation, and other project records. Coordinate HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, equipment, controls, and related trade work with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors. Assist with material and equipment procurement by obtaining quotations, confirming technical requirements, monitoring lead times, and supporting release and delivery schedules. Participate in BIM/MEP coordination, shop drawing review, clash resolution, and installation planning to support efficient field production. Support project cost control by reviewing commitments, tracking potential change orders, documenting impacts, and assisting with forecasts and billing information. Attend project and coordination meetings; prepare clear action items and follow through with responsible parties. Conduct site visits to verify progress, coordinate deliveries, document existing conditions, and help resolve installation issues in collaboration with field supervision. Support quality control, safety compliance, testing, commissioning, punch-list completion, training, record drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and final turnover. Qualifications Three to five years of project engineering, project coordination, estimating, or field experience in commercial or industrial construction; mechanical contracting experience is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, hydronic, boiler, pumping, or related mechanical systems. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and equipment schedules. Understanding of RFIs, submittals, procurement, change management, scheduling, cost tracking, and project closeout processes. Strong organization, follow-through, written communication, and problem-solving skills, with careful attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction software is preferred. Ability to collaborate effectively with office and field personnel and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to local project sites as required. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, building systems, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will be considered. Experience with design-build or design-assist delivery, MEP coordination, estimating, value engineering, and construction scheduling. Familiarity with applicable mechanical, plumbing, energy, and building codes and with California construction practices. Success in This Role The successful candidate is proactive, dependable, and comfortable moving between detailed project documentation and practical field coordination. Success means anticipating issues, communicating clearly, maintaining accurate records, and helping the project team deliver safe, high-quality work on schedule and within budget. Physical and Work Requirements This position requires regular computer and office work, participation in meetings, and periodic visits to active construction sites. Site visits may involve walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs or ladders, wearing required personal protective equipment, and working around construction activities. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals.
