Job Description
Position Summary TAGE is seeking an experienced Traffic Project Engineer to serve as the Technical Lead for its growing traffic engineering team. This role is for a technically strong engineer who is ready to expand project-leadership responsibility. The Technical Lead will remain actively engaged in design, technical review, and problem solving. The person will also guide staff, support project delivery, coordinate with clients and public agencies, and help build a consistent, high-quality traffic engineering practice. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery and quality control of traffic engineering assignments from planning through design, bid support, and construction support.
- Prepare, review, and coordinate traffic studies, traffic signal and interconnect plans, signing and striping plans, detour plans, and work-site traffic control plans.
- Develop practical traffic operations, safety, pedestrian, bicycle, and complete-streets solutions that respond to project constraints and agency requirements.
- Coordinate technical decisions with clients, public agencies, utilities, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Review plans, calculations, quantities, cost estimates, and technical reports for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Guide, mentor, and review the work of traffic engineering staff. Establish clear design and quality-control practices for the team.
- Support scopes, schedules, budgets, proposals, and client communications with the Project Manager and company leadership.
- Help grow the traffic engineering practice and develop the next generation of traffic engineers. Required Qualifications
- Current Traffic Engineer (T.E.) license.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5 - 10 years of professional experience in traffic engineering.
- Demonstrated experience leading traffic engineering work from planning and design through construction support and closeout.
- Strong working knowledge of traffic operations, traffic signal design, signing and striping, work-zone traffic control, roadway safety, and applicable California and local-agency standards.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple assignments, coordinate with clients and agencies, and deliver complete, high-quality work products.
- Experience reviewing technical work and guiding junior engineers or designers.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD), Caltrans requirements, and local-agency standards, including LADOT requirements when applicable.
- Experience with complex staged traffic control, detour, temporary traffic signal, roadway-widening, active-transportation, and utility-coordination projects.
- Experience preparing traffic signal warrants, traffic analyses, safety or collision analyses, technical reports, quantity takeoffs, and engineer cost estimates.
- Experience leading traffic engineering staff on multidisciplinary transportation or public-works projects.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- A demonstrated desire to develop into a Project Manager and future practice leader. Technical Proficiency
