Veterans Preference Civil Engineer III (Stormwater) Description This is an engineering and administrative position in planning, design, construction supervision, and overall management of the extensions and improvements of the Citys infrastructure, including streets, drainage, water and sanitary sewer systems. Reports directly to the
City Engineer Examples of Duties:
Plans and prepares designs for City municipal construction projects. Writes specifications, prepares cost estimates, and assembles construction contract documents. Processes and obtains all regulatory permits for construction. Prepares jobs for bidding and represents the City in contract negotiations. Manages city construction projects. Monitors job progress by performing field inspections, reviewing progress schedules, processing progress payments and change orders. Conducts meetings with contract, government officials, and industry representatives. Reviews project plans, cost estimates and contract documents prepared by consultants. Reviews commercial site plans. Supervises technical personnel and support staff engaged in drafting, engineering design, and construction inspection. Conducts regular progress meetings with staff. May assist in interviewing and selection process for new employees. Prepares and conducts PER's when appropriate. Provides engineering support to other City departments. Provides engineering information to the public. Investigates citizens complaints and makes recommendations. Assists the City Engineer with the preparation and dissemination of the Engineering Departments Capital Improvement budget. Backfills for the City Engineer when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, supplemented by at least five years of professional experience as a licensed professional engineer.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operators Drivers License for required travel
  • Employer conducts motor vehicle record check
  • Registered, as a Professional Engineer by the State of Florida is required.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to respond (approximately 30 minutes) to emergency situations.
Supplemental Information
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must have knowledge of principles and techniques of Civil Engineering and equipment of public works construction projects.
  • Must have the ability to develop plans and specifications on the design of standard public works construction projects.
  • Must be able to plan, organize, schedule and supervise the work of a moderately sized professional and technical staff engaged in surveying, construction inspection, drafting and design.
  • Must have the ability to respond to multiple deadlines and establish and maintain working relationships with employees, consultants, contractors, and City officials.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports orally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
