Position Specific Description NextEra Energy is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join the Power Generation Division Engineering & Operations Support Services organization. This position serves as a technical resource supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of civil infrastructure across a diverse fleet of power generation facilities. The successful candidate will serve as the technical authority for assigned civil infrastructure, functioning as the Owner's Engineer responsible for evaluating asset condition, developing engineering solutions, and supporting projects from concept through construction. This role requires a technically strong engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, collaborating across multiple disciplines, and developing practical, cost-effective solutions that improve long-term asset reliability. Primary Responsibilities Provide technical engineering support for civil and structural systems across a fleet of operating power plants. Perform engineering evaluations, structural assessments, field investigations, and condition inspections of existing plant infrastructure. Develop engineering solutions for repair, modification, rehabilitation, replacement, and long-term asset management. Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, scopes of work, construction packages, cost estimates, and technical bid evaluations. Develop maintenance and capital improvement projects from concept through construction, including construction support and resolution of field issues. Lead or support engineering investigations and root cause analyses related to equipment or infrastructure failures. Manage engineering consultants and review engineering deliverables to ensure technical quality and compliance with company standards. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Projects, Supply Chain, and other engineering disciplines to develop safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. Support emergency plant issues and provide engineering guidance during emergent conditions as required. Engineering assignments may include circulating cooling water systems, cooling towers, reinforced concrete and structural steel, foundations, equipment supports, buried utilities, drainage and stormwater systems, intake and discharge structures, roadways, heavy lift support, structural modifications, and other balance-of-plant civil infrastructure.
The Ideal Candidate Would Have The Following:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. Minimum 4 years of engineering experience in commercial, industrial, utility, manufacturing, heavy civil, or related civil engineering fields. Experience supporting power generation facilities is preferred. Experience performing engineering analysis and preparing technical reports, calculations, specifications, and construction documents. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with cross-functional teams. Willingness to travel to power generation facilities as required and provide engineering support during emergent plant conditions. Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure. Experience with circulating cooling water systems, cooling towers, or other industrial water infrastructure. Experience managing engineering consultants and construction contractors. Project management experience. Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Maximo, or similar engineering and asset management software. Lean Six Sigma certification.
