In person with travel to project sites as needed We are seeking an experienced Automation & Controls Project Engineer to support industrial controls projects throughout Central Indiana. This is not primarily a PLC programming position. The ideal candidate understands industrial control systems from a hardware, wiring, instrumentation, networking, and field-execution standpoint and can help support projects from design and layout through installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup. Responsibilities Review and interpret electrical and controls drawings, schematics, one-lines, and technical specifications Understand complete industrial control systems, including wiring, instrumentation, networks, cables, connectors, and control panels Assist Project Managers and field teams with controls-system layout, installation, and technical execution Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and system testing Perform field investigation of existing control systems and equipment Open and evaluate control panels, document existing conditions, and assist with creation or revision of diagrams Work with instrumentation such as transmitters, sensors, and other field devices Coordinate with customers, vendors, field personnel, and project teams Support project estimating, material takeoffs, scope development, and preconstruction activities Help identify technical issues and develop practical solutions during project execution Qualifications Experience with industrial automation, controls, instrumentation, electrical systems, or a related technical field Strong understanding of how industrial controls systems are wired, connected, installed, and commissioned Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, and technical documentation Experience with instrumentation, industrial networks, control panels, or field controls systems Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, foremen, customers, vendors, and field personnel Comfortable working in both office and industrial/jobsite environments Preferred Background Candidates may come from backgrounds such as: Controls Engineering Automation Engineering Instrumentation & Controls Controls Technician / Instrument Technician Systems Integration Commissioning Electrical Controls Industrial electrical field work with strong controls experience Prior estimating experience is not required and can be learned on the job.
