Senior Project Engineer Location Morrisville, NC 27560 Date Posted June 16, 2026 Job ID 14831 Employment Type Direct Hire Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer for an established and growing engineering and building solutions organization. This is an onsite position based in Morrisville, North Carolina. The Senior Project Engineer will serve as a technical leader supporting HVAC and mechanical systems projects from initial client engagement through engineering design and project execution. This role combines engineering expertise with project development responsibilities, partnering closely with sales, estimating, and operations teams to assess opportunities, define project scope, develop technical solutions, and support successful project delivery. The ideal candidate brings strong HVAC and mechanical engineering experience, enjoys interacting with clients, and can confidently translate technical requirements into practical, cost-effective solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the design and development of HVAC and mechanical building systems projects from concept through implementation. Conduct site walks, facility assessments, and client meetings to evaluate existing conditions and identify project opportunities. Partner with sales and estimating teams during project development efforts, helping define scope, gather field information, and support estimate creation. Perform engineering calculations, equipment selection, load analyses, and system evaluations for HVAC and mechanical systems. Develop technical reports, design documents, specifications, and construction-related deliverables. Review project requirements, identify risks, and recommend practical engineering solutions that align with client objectives. Collaborate with contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff. Ensure projects comply with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices. Support project scheduling, budgeting, quality control, and successful client outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Strong experience designing HVAC and mechanical building systems within commercial, industrial, institutional, or healthcare environments. Experience conducting site assessments, developing project scopes, and supporting project development activities. Ability to partner effectively with sales, estimating, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle. Proficiency with AutoCAD and HVAC design and engineering tools. Strong understanding of building codes, mechanical systems, and construction processes. Excellent communication and client-facing skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position offers a salary range of $110,000-$120,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package including PTO, medical, dental and vision coverage, along with additional position specific benefits!
