Senior Structural Engineer Kanner Engineering LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Lakewood, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have approximately 5-10 years of structural engineering experience, preferable hold an active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, and be comfortable working on a wide variety of building projects. This position involves both structural design and significant field site visit work, including evaluating existing structures, identifying structural issues, and developing practical repair or reinforcement solutions.
Responsibilities:
Perform structural analysis and design for new and existing buildings. Conduct regular site visits and field investigations to evaluate existing structural conditions. Assess damaged, deteriorated, modified, or deficient structural components. Develop practical structural repair, reinforcement, and modification solutions based on field conditions. Prepare structural drawings, details, calculations, reports, and engineering letters. Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners, and other design professionals. Provide field guidance during construction and assist in resolving unforeseen structural conditions. Communicate directly with clients and contractors regarding structural conditions and recommended solutions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (Masters preferred). Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred. 5-10 years of relevant structural engineering experience preferred. Strong understanding of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood construction, and cold formed steel construction. Experience with both new construction and existing-building evaluation strongly preferred. Ability to independently evaluate field conditions and determine appropriate structural solutions. Strong engineering judgment and practical problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prepare clear engineering calculations, sketches, details, and reports. Familiarity with structural engineering software and AutoCAD/Revit is a must. Site Visit /
Travel Requirements:
This is a hands-on engineering position that requires regular site visits, and occasional plane travel. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle. Be able and willing to travel to project sites. Be comfortable accessing active construction sites and existing buildings. We are looking for a structural engineer who is technically strong, practical, and comfortable independently evaluating real-world structural conditions and developing workable solutions.
