Job Type Unclassified Department Transportation About the Position The Civil Engineer provides important engineering expertise for the MCDOT TIP and MIP (Transportation and Maintenance Improvement Program). The primary role is to assist the Senior Standards and Review Engineer with maintaining engineering standards, construction specifications, and standard details. This is the journey-level class of the registered civil engineering series; incumbents are responsible for complex assignments requiring technical proficiency and exercising initiative and independent judgment within defined technical and procedural limits. Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZ We Require Two years of professional engineering experience with transportation projects Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment Other Requirements Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire and have an acceptable driving record. We Also Value Three years of professional engineering experience with transportation projects Experience using MicroStation, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office products Experience working with the Maricopa County Department of Transportation and the Maricopa Association of Governments' standard specifications and details Experience writing/editing: technical specifications for roadway construction, highway design standards and guidelines, technical evaluation reports of highway-related construction materials, testing, and methods Job Contributions Assist with updates to the MCDOT's Supplement to MAG Standard Specifications and Details, Roadway Design Manual, and Guideline Special Provisions Assist with developing and updating MCDOT's design guidelines and standard operating procedures Collaborate with MCDOT's Designers on the creation of QA/QC tools and worksheets for use in design Collaborate with the
MCDOT CADD
Group, updating or developing CADD Standards and sample plan sheets Maintain and update MCDOT's Master Bid Item list and Cost Estimation database. Collaborate with designers on the use of custom bid items Assist with the development and maintenance of user-friendly, customer-driven dashboards and design tools Assist designers with project-specific specifications Assist MCDOT staff with plan reviews and review comments using Bluebeam Other Job Duties as assigned Working Conditions This position is eligible for hybrid flexibility after a brief training period Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time with occasional walking or standing for longer periods of time The position is typically located in an office environment. Occasional fieldwork may be required. Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures (hot or cold), wind, rain, traffic hazards, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware Motor vehicle, computer workstation, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams. Protective Equipment Required Hard hat, safety vest, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses.
