About Our Client:
Our client is a not-for-profit wholesale electric cooperative providing electricity to member-owner distribution cooperatives throughout Minnesota. The organization supports reliable electric service across the state through its generation and transmission operations and offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside professionals in the electric utility industry.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to support the Transmission Line Engineering department with 3D modeling, engineering design, analysis, and technical support for transmission line projects. This internship provides hands-on experience using PLS-CADD, GIS, engineering standards, and specifications while working alongside experienced engineers and technicians. The intern will participate in transmission line design projects, maintain engineering documentation and models, and collaborate with cross-functional teams supporting the transmission system.
Key Responsibilities:
Support engineers and technicians on transmission line projects using PLS-CADD, GIS, established standards, and specifications. Participate in transmission line design and analysis projects to support safe, reliable, high-quality, and cost-efficient designs. Perform 3D modeling and assist with engineering design activities using
PLS-CADD.
Manage as-built documentation and model updates to maintain post-construction accuracy. Provide technical support to engineers, Land Rights and Environmental teams, field technicians, operators, and other internal partners. Assist with activities supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the transmission system. Participate in cross-functional teams responsible for developing and updating internal design standards and equipment specifications. Assist with additional engineering projects and technical initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering. Basic knowledge of engineering and science principles and safety practices. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to research and analyze information and make recommendations related to engineering decisions. Ability to work effectively within a team environment. Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to address technical issues. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn. You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other nonimmigrant visas.
Working Conditions:
Majority of work is performed in a professional office environment. Field site or construction visits may be required. Office work involves working at a computer station for extended periods. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position. Eligibility for a hybrid work environment may be available following successful integration into the role and at management's discretion.
Internship Schedule:
Full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer. Monday-Friday schedule. Full-time hours during academic breaks may be available. Part-time hours of 10+ hours per week during the academic year. Continuation in the internship program is based on performance and business needs.
