Job Description
The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities is seeking qualified applicants for an Engineer I position at its Falconer, NY office. This is an entry-level professional engineering position and an excellent opportunity for a recent civil engineering or civil technology graduate to gain hands-on experience working on public infrastructure projects throughout Chautauqua County. The Engineer I works under the direction and review of higher-level engineering staff while independently completing assigned projects using engineering principles and practices learned through education and training. The position includes a combination of office and field work and provides experience in roadway design, drainage, surveying, construction, traffic studies, rights-of-way, and other municipal engineering activities.
Responsibilities may include:
Assist with the planning and design of County infrastructure and construction projects. Design road grades, alignments, and drainage structures. Assist with Rights-of-Way acquisition and prepare legal descriptions. Plan and coordinate survey activities and perform survey calculations. Collect, analyze, and interpret survey and engineering data. Perform material testing and make recommendations based on findings. Conduct road condition surveys and assist with preparation of road improvement programs. Perform traffic studies and assist with accident investigations. Provide quality-control oversight on construction projects. Prepare project cost estimates, specifications, and bid documents. Work with contractors, field staff, technicians, local governments, and the public. Attend meetings and represent the engineering division as assigned. Assist local municipalities with engineering-related needs. Perform related engineering duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess:
A high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma; and A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Technology from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university. Civil Service Appointment This position will be filled through a provisional appointmen t from approved applications received. The selected candidate will be required to participate in a competitive Chautauqua County Civil Service examination when one is scheduled at a later date. Why Chautauqua County?
